Tenmile House - Comfortable Ocean View
Tenmile House takes its name from nearby Tenmile Creek, one of the cleanest, clearest streams on the Oregon Coast.
Tenmile House was recently remodeled to make it a comfortable place for extended family gatherings. With three full bedrooms, two bunk beds, a daybed and two bathrooms, there’s room for siblings with children and the grandparents, too. A large second-floor suite offers privacy as well as generous views of the ocean. A large deck offers afternoon sunshine and views of the ocean. A woodstove in the living room warms the common area, where large windows provide views of the ocean, old-growth forests and the historic Tenmile Creek bridge, a beautiful round arch that rises out of the landscape like a giant sculpture.
A quarter mile of sandy beach is just a five minute walk from Tenmile House at Stonefield State Wayside, a little-used state park known for the agates that can be found among the beach cobbles. Sea lions, seals, and river otters can be seen early in the morning searching for breakfast in the surf. Eagles often nest in the big, old trees along the ridge just south of the creek and may be heard screeching as they soar high above the beach. Tidepools at the south end of the beach offer endless opportunities for exploring.
Tenmile House is sandwiched between two federally protected Wilderness Areas that offer solitude among towering Douglas firs and Sitka spruces, some of the oldest surviving trees on the Oregon Coast. Cummins Creek Wilderness encompasses some 9,400 acres to the north and Rock Creek Wilderness preserves an additional 7,400 acres to the south. Some of the trees in these preserves are more than 9 feet in diameter, and they are some of the finest examples of the temperate rainforest that cloaked much of the Oregon Coast before European settlement. The Rock Creek Wilderness is also home of the rare Oregon silverspot butterfly.

LIVING ROOM: Large comfortable chairs, sofa, woodstove, flat-screen TV with Dish Network and DVD player. Large collection of games and puzzles. Wireless internet is available throughout the house.
KITCHEN: Plenty of space for several cooks to work. Refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, griddle, blender.
BEDROOM 1: Queen bed, large closet, west-facing windows bring in plenty of afternoon light.
BEDROOM 2: Twin beds, dresser, individual reading lights in a quiet room at the far end of the house.
BEDROOM 3: Large second-floor suite with queen bed, reading lights, ample closet space, daybed, dresser, and TV with Dish Network and DVD/VCR player.
BUNK ROOM: A little hideaway the kids will love, with bunk beds, reading lights, and a wall-enclosed heater to keep the room toasty for little ones.
BATHROOMS: Both include showers. Washer and dryer in the rear bathroom.
PARKING: There’s space for three vehicles in the graveled parking area.

Comfortable home

This home is nicely decorated and very comfortable. I wasn't sure how noisy it would be, after arriving and seeing how close it is to the highway, but it wasn't bad! The home was clean and the beds were comfortable. Truly the only negative is the beach closest to the house is full of big, smooth rocks. You really need to hit it at low tide to get any sand. Check out was easy and didn't require a lot of extra work.

It was perfect for our little family reunion! My favorite part was the wood stove in a corner of the comfortable living room. Kitchen was spacious and well furnished. Bedrooms were comfortable, with nice bathrooms. Oh, and nice vintage furniture!

Great older house that was centrally located for our week on the coast. Very clean and comfortable. Loved having beach access directly across 101. Would definitely stay again. Just remember this is an older house so temper your expectations and you won’t be disappointed.

A wonderful respite

Wonderful experience with the owner when my mother broke the key off in the lock. While the rest of us were rushing back down the coast to get back to her, Steve showed up with a spare key and the tools needed to get her back into the property. He even offered to help getting my elderly father from the house from the car. 10-Mile house was perfect for our stay, the kitchen was a wonderful surprise, well-appointed and with enough settings for us to entertain some others who weren't as lucky with the property they rented up the coast a bit. Only downsides were a few missing sundries. The only garbage bag for the kitchen was the one in the trashcan, and we did run out of TP on the last day of our stay in one of the restrooms. Minor problems easily solved. I would certainly stay here again if it was available on my next coastal vacation.

Great location, needs a good cleaning
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The house is a great size and in a great location. The rental agency was responsive and helpful. The one down side to our stay was the cleanliness of the house. It had clearly been cleaned between guests (sheets and towels washed), but is in need of a good deep clean. The floors were quite dirty (wiped up a small water spill and the napkin came up completely brown), and the cushions/pillows were dirty with a coat of dog/cat hair. Overall, we enjoyed our visit, but it would have been greatly improved if the house had been cleaner.

Stress free vacation

Wow! I've never had such a stress free vacation! Everything about Tenmile House was as advertised. Didn't have any issues except. Grilled fresh halibut and salmon from the fish market. Walked across the street to the beach for hikes. Property was clean and had lots of the necessary stuff to make for a great vacation! Thank you!

Comfortable and Relaxing

Our time at this property was relaxing, restful, and comfortable. The location afforded a lot of privacy, yet was close enough to Florence, Yachats, and Newport to allow us to explore and enjoy some meals out. My favorite part was the pretty easy access to the beach, where I could enjoy the sight, sound, and smell of the ocean.

Absolutely PERFECT, and spotlessly clean!

Tenmile House is wonderful, and so well-cared-for! We had set up the rental a few months ago, arrived at the start of spring break, and were lucky enough to be permitted to stay through that week. The location is fantastic for getting away from crowds, and the beaches across the highway from the house are, IMHO, some of the best and most interesting in the state. The home is roomy, comfortable, peaceful, and so cozy and comfortable. Our family was very happy here, and we hope to come back soon! Only downside is the water pressure, but that is absolutely normal on the coast. This is a wonderful place to stay. Thank you for making our springtime WONDERFUL.

Totally enjoyed this house. Lots of sleeping room for adults an kids. Great location for the sites we were seeing that weekend. Very well stocked with amenities. The hot water was a issue. Cannot use shower dishwasher an sink at same time. Not much pressure. Really enjoyed our stay.

Right across the street from Ten Mile Creek and the Ocean
A spacious,light, and comfortable house. Spent a week with my two teenage daughters. They liked being able to walk across 101 and make their way to a long and often uninhabited beach or wade in Ten Mile Creek. The house was spacious enough for privacy when wanted. I think a larger group of people would be comfortable here. Between the house, the front porch, and the deck w picnic table behind the house, there's lots of space to spread out.
Deer came through the yard morning and late afternoon.
The Kitchen is well stocked with pots,pans,utensils,etc.
Great spot, this.

Great House by the creek
House has a pleasant ocean, whale, seashell, marine décor to it – corresponds to the ocean across the road. It’s in Florence by the Tenmile creek, which is about halfway (15 mins) from Heceta Head Lighthouse and to the center of Yachats. / House has everything that a family would need for a comfortable long stay: plenty of towels, extra blankets, sheets and pillows. Each space has a heating system & can be independently adjusted. One large bedroom is on the 2nd floor, but it does not have a door (only stairs leading up to it). Everything else is on the 1st floor (one bedroom with a full bed, a bedroom with 2 single beds and a third room with a wooden bunk bed). There are two bathrooms with shower stalls, but only 1 shower has an okay water flow/pressure and you have to make sure that only one water feature is being used at a time (ex: if you are washing dishes, you cannot take a shower). We have not used it, but there is a wood fireplace in the main living room. Kitchen has many dishes and silverware and plates and bowls (enough for a family of 6 or 8) and lots of useful appliances and pots and pans of all sizes (microwave, waffle maker, electric mixer, toaster, tea kettle, coffee maker). Seating space is also comfortable with variety of chairs, soft and hard cushions on the couch and the rocking chair. There is also a picnic table in the outdoor area with several Adirondack chairs / Depending on the time of day, the road (right outside the house) can get pretty noisy and busy. / There were various spiderwebs in the house, but we’re confident that the cleaning crew will take care of that for the next guests. / Dealing with wonderful people is a must for a good experience: Peter and Wendy at the office are great! Peter is honest and sincere about whatever is going on with any of the properties and Wendy knows everything about the town and since she’s a genuine local, she can answer any of your questions. They truly care about the

Short Break
We stayed at Ten Mile House so we could explore the natural area and river. The weather was great, the house was clean and comfortable. The only drawback is the proximity to the road.

Great location
Ten Mile House was a really nice home in a wonderful location. It was very spacious and nice. Everything worked well. There could have been a bit more care taken to insure things were ready for us - there were no coffee filters, so we had to buy some before making coffee the first morning, and it would have been nice to have a few more basic pantry items to start. But more importantly, two light fixtures had been broken and a broken light bulb was left in the fixture. We decided not to use that room because we weren't sure how well the glass had been cleaned up, since the bulb was still there. Not a big deal for the 4 of us, because there are so many bedrooms. But sure enough, both my husband and I stepped on glass in the dining room, so that was a drag and made us nervous about the kids walking around in bare feet. I called Ocean Odyssey to notify them about the fixtures, but there was no response to us. Hopefully it was taken care of after we left.
The location is really great - a short drive to Yachats, Cape Perpetua, the Sea Lion Caves and Heceta Lighthouse. Such a nice place to relax and enjoy the coast for a few days. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Perfect for our family vacation!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Tenmile House! It had plenty of space for our family of 6 to spread out comfortably or come together for family activities. It doesn't show in any of the pictures, but there is a door to close off the hallway to the bedrooms, so the kids could sleep well while we were awake. The beach across the bridge was awesome and usually abandoned. The sand was super soft! At one end of the beach, there were lots of shells and a few tide pools. At the other end, it borders the creek, so you both freshwater and ocean beaches to play on. There were a few little disappoints/issues about our time there. The ocean view was not what we were hoping for, but we could hear the ocean at night with the bedroom windows open. We did not have cell service there, which did cause a bit of difficulty for us. Also, when they say that they provide only a starter amount of paper products, they mean it! We had to make a late night run in the pouring rain for toilet paper our first night there. We will be more prepared if we stay there again! Overall, we loved our time there and it was very hard to leave! We would love to visit again! This was a bit of a splurge for our family, but hopefully we will make it back someday!
