Big Creek, a wonderful waterfront home, has been designed with the captain's quarters of an old wooden ship in mind.

The interior of this home is built with large, rough-hewn beams

that have been painted with an eggshell color to reflect light coming in from the west-facing windows.

A fireplace and nautical touches finish the look of this cozy, beach rental home.

It is located right next to Big Creek, which feeds directly into the ocean.

The beach and creek access are an easy walk from the backyard.

There are also a barbeque and picnic tables on the back deck for casual dining.

Charming, great beach access

Overall a great second stay. The place could use a good deep cleaning tho. We were finding dust bunnies that had been there for some time including old leashes and toys tucked under the couches covered in dirt and hair. We spent most of our time on the beach, so the home was the least of our concern. It would just be nice to see the place cared for better. Charm goes so far before it's just considered rundown and dirty. Better pillows needed or bring your own. Would recommend to anyone just wanting a great view and beach access.

Location, Location, Location.

Location was terrific. House in very poor condition: foundation undermined and floors slope; irty floors, shower salls questionable, towels stank, food bits in sinks, guest bath sink rusted out. We tried not to touch too many surfaces.

Dirty

This house had cobwebs from the 1800's! Windows had mold in them. The deck has many areas where if you don't watch your step, you could fall through a deteriorating spot. The house had an smell that would not freshmen up no matter what. The list of repairs this house needs is endless

Had a great visit, survived the ice storm!!!

We enjoyed our stay at Big Creek. It's an old and funky home that may not be for everyone, but we really enjoyed it (as did the dog!). I've rented it many times in the past.

There was wicked ice storm during out stay (the rental fortunately missed it), and the roads back home were closed for an extended period of time. The management was very accommodating in allowing us to stay an extra day (for free even!). That made our drive home much safer! They even called to make sure we were ok leaving, since some of the HW's were still closed!!! That was very much appreciated!!!

I really like this home, and hopefully will be back again, but it's an ancient home w/ many issues some may not like, but we were the kind of folks that like that!

Perfect location for relaxation

What a cozy getaway!

If you are looking for a posh, high end stay, this is not for you. BUT if you like quaint, peaceful, oceanside vacations, this is a place for you!
Only a few steps away from this nautical themed home with a lovely ocean view is an expansive beach.
We had a great time! There are several tvs including in the bedrooms but if you're like us, you'll never turn them on!

Good morning
My family had a wonderful time at Big Creek. It is second to none in location. There is easy access to miles of open beach and the creek is a perfect addition for the littles to play in.
The only problem is maintenance.
That being said, we will continue to stay at Big Creek as long as it’s there. It’s where we have wonderful memories of Glen. And will continue to make new memories as our family grows.

Great Spot

We really enjoyed our rental, like other reviews said it’s rustic but we were fine with that, it had character. The heated floors were amazing and the beds were comfortable. The hot tub was great to relax in on the chilly nights. The location was great, it was beautiful and very neat to be by the creek going into the ocean. The beach is a good walking beach, not too much to explore. But you are close to a few really neat beaches where you can play in the tide pools. Only thing that could be improved is the outlets in the house, our chargers and the lights were constantly popping out. And some nicer pots to cook with would be great.

Beach time

Our time was magical. The house, although rustic, has the perfect location. It could use a deep cleaning, but surface-wise it was very clean. New or repaired blinds are needed. The staff is exceptionally nice, friendly, and very accomodating.

Amazing view

This house is corky and I loved it. The view is beautiful and amazing. Do Bring your own TP and such because there wasn't any. Also for a 115$ cleaning fee I would atleast make sure the house was clean. Cobwebs all over everything mostly walls. Otherwise beautiful views and extremely relaxing. I would rent this place again as long as it was cleaned a bit better. Thank you

Ocean Odyssey--Big Creek

Wonderful-- we have stayed here for several years--none of my family or friends (other than the ones that have already shared this home with me from the beginning) would find this house acceptable--
Beautiful location--perfect--easy access to beach--but house with it's problems and amenities are very substandard--we have come to love the house due to the hot tub and we pretty much know what to expect as far as the rest goes but the first time was a shock. Peter at ocean Odyssey addressed the 2 problems we had this year quickly and efficiently. We will be back but not recommended for everyone

This is a very rustic beach house built in 1970. The foundation is sinking on one side of the house so the floor is sloped. But the home has a lot of character and we loved it. The location is great and we felt like we had the beach to ourselves most of the time.

Had great family time here!

The house is like the inside of a ship from olden days with very comfortable beds, spacious living room/kitchen area and fabulous hot tub that overlooks the enormous sandy beach and Pacific ocean! My two yr old grandson loved digging sand on the beach, right outside the house. My two adult daughters loved the hot tub and nearby restaurants.

Love Big Creek, but NOT for Poodles

We have been staying at Big Creek for years, all seasons. The view of ocean and creek are incomparable.
We like to cozy beach shack (and I do mean SHACK)with increrdible light and quirky comfort. Perfect for us. Gotta warn folks though, it is rustic. Not for poodles who expect Mauna Kea at Yachats. Ocean Odyssey are absolutely the very best . Accomodating and flexible as possible.

Relax on the water

Be ready to do nothing when you stay here. Sip your coffee or cocktail from the back patio and watch the waves roll in. Short walk to the beach - this home has an amazing location. Nothing short of a million dollar view.

Okay for off season rates

We love this property and have previously rented Big Creek. However, it is rough around the edges. A lot of little things added up. Overall, many broken knobs and drawers and not thoroughly cleaned. The hot tub cleaning was questionable and we paid a hot tub and cleaning deposit! We overlooked stuff because of the good rate, but I can't imagine paying $299 a night.

Love Big Creek. Home away from home

We’ve been staying at Big Creek for 14 years. It’s an amazing place for our family to relax and refresh. It was an important place for my husband to recuperate from intense chemo after he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in 2004. We made many wonderful memories. Sadly , Glen died this past June from an aggressive form of gastric cancer. It was vital to our family to gather there again. It was a place of healing once again. We are planning on going to Big Creek for many years to come. It symbolizes everything good about our family.

Cozy "Quaint" Ocean Shack

We have been staying at Big Creek for YEARS, winter and summer. We love that it is not a gypsum board box inside, but rather more like a beach shack with lots of character. It is not for poodle people who want luxury, but for those taht want a great experience in a place with charm next to a river on the beach. Peter and Wendy with Ocean Odyssey are awesome too. Incredibly helpful.

Gorgeous Setting, Rustic Accommodations

If you're used to absolutely pristine conditions and modern amenities, you might be disappointed. But for those of us who appreciate funky old houses with character, it was fine and comfortable. More importantly, the VIEW and yard is spectacular! I would say this is probably better for more like 6 people if you want to be able to use the living room as a living room. We didn't really use the appliances or kitchen much, but it seemed basically adequate. If you want to get your gourmet on though, probably not the place. Overall we might return again for the right type of getaway at the right price.

We stayed here in mid October. House was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Lights didn't work in living room at first, but husband found panel box and flipped switch on and off. Then everything was fine. Only downside was not all the jets worked in hot tub.

Big Creek 7-11 - 7-20, 2014

We love Big Creek and will continue to stay there. This was our 9th year. Here are a few things that would make our stay more comfortable. There were not enough plates or cups. The pots and pans are worn out and should be replaced. There are too many worn out kitchen utensils. The windows should be washed. Despite the few inconveniences, Big Creek continues to be our home away from home. Our grandchildren start planning next years trip to Big Creek on the way home.

Big Creek House Needs some TLC Now

This was the first time in many years that we rented Big Creek House. We were somewhat disappointed. The living room furniture was the same as last time, a mish-mash and not very comfortable. The queen bed mattresses were fine. The kitchen has very little usable storage space, the tile-topped "table/pots-and-pans storage" needs to be replaced with a free-standing table which seats 8 and alternative "real cupboard" for the pots-and-pans (some of the pots were placed there still dirty). The view from the house and backyard deck is almost disappeared because of bushes not being trimmed properly. The house inside needs new paint at a minimum and new carpeting (old, worn and stained). We reported the handle of the storm door opening to the deck came off in our hands as soon as we tried to open the door but it was not fixed in the 5 days we stayed there. The WIFI was great--a real boon since cell phone reception is nil.

House is dated but very comfortable. Not very clean unfortunately. Found a dead mouse in one of the closets and the dishes were not clean. Location is so great that it made up for it though!

Alice's last beach trip

Alice, our lab/aussie/rottweilet had an extremely aggressive cancer in her nose that there was nothing that could be done for. She had her last week at the beach, her most favorite place in the world. She had a great time the first few days. She died the day after we got back.

Outstanding Management

When I originally booked my trip, one of the requirements was a functional television. I rarely care if the tv is working, since the point of getting away... is to get away. However, this was a post-season Seahawks game, so it became a requirement.

Upon arrival, we found that the tv service was not working, possibly the satellite dish. Either way, once I found out (very late at night, I might add), I sent a somewhat terse email describing my disappointment.

First thing in the morning, there was an email from Pete, the property manager. He was very gracious, and like a pro, took care of the situation by arranging for a new location, one we liked even better then the first (with a functional television). We were relocated and settled in about two hours before kickoff. The weekend was perfect.

The effort to take care of us was very much appreciated. Will certainly look to come back in the future.

Big Creek is literally on the coast

Had a great week at Big Creek. We were able to go right from the house on to the sand beach. The house is all cedar inside and nothing fancy but does the job and we loved the floor heat. Beautiful weather then the storm hit and were out of electric for a couple hours then went back to nice weather. Vacation Odyssey was very easy to work with and was willing bend rules and work with us on our schedule.

Affordable for the features!

Have rented here several times. Love the location, hot tub, fire pit, new BBQ. TV has lots of channels (satellite), great during bad weather. It's an older home, lots of stains if the carpet, which means we're not walking on eggshells when we pour the wine, lol! Comfortable and pleasant place to stay! One of 3 homes I keep going back to!

We had a great time. The house location is amazing and the house is very comfortable. We were unhappy with the way the kitchen is't very well stock with utensils and the storage cabinets are not very well stocked with towels, both kitchen and bath.

My family has been staying at Big Creek one weekend annually since '02.We love the place.

We are very comfortable at Big Creek. We bring a family including two dogs and so take advantage of the fresh water rinse of Big Creek after a run in the surf. We did really enjoy having the hot tub available in years past and so did miss it this year. We all hope you will seriously consider replacing that ammenity. Otherwise, we had great weather, and good times. Thank You.
